Who we are

Our website address is: https://clicnews.ie. This website is administered by the Access and Civic Engagement office in the Technological University Dublin, Rathdown House, Grangegorman Lower, Dublin 7 D07 H6K8. This is a members only website.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

This website is built using WordPress. By default WordPress does not collect any personal data about guests.

We do not collect any personal data about the children who use the site. They use the same single class email address to register on the site and pseudonyms to protect their identity. A class code is used during the registration process. The code is registered to the class teacher.  This code will identify the child as being a member of the class but not the individual child. The class and the teacher are only known to the administrators of the site.

The class code is necessary to enable teachers view only the comments from their children. It is also needed to identify the class the child belongs to when sending out their rewards. On rare occasions where a child leaves a inappropriate comment or one that needs follow up, the class teacher can be identified and contacted. At no stage is it possible for a child to be contacted privately.

Any invited guests, teachers or TU Dublin students who register on the site will have only their names and email addresses collected and saved.

In addition any teacher who registers his/her class will have their class and school address collected and saved.

TU Dublin students and moderators have the OPTION of adding additional information to their profiles.

Moderators are required to add their address to their profiles in order to receive rewards.

Should the contact form be used, the name, subject, message, email address, IP address of the user’s computer, date and time the message was left will be stored.

Comments

We do not allow comments from children who in any way identify themselves or their family.

TU Dublin students and administrators are permitted to reply/comment publicly to a child’s comment only to clarify a story or directly answer a question about the CLiC News website or a story contained on it.

Only registered children can leave comments. No personal information is saved during the registration process. The IP address of the computer devise the children are using when they leave a comment and the browser user agent string are saved to help spam detection.

Moderators are not permitted to leave comments.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. The Gravatar service is only available to TU Dublin students.
